She was born in Buckeye, Iowa on January 21,1921, the only child of Emma (Bessman) Boyington and Jack Boyington.  When Marvelle was 5 years old they moved to a farm north of Popejoy where she eventually graduated from high school.  On Thanksgiving Day in 1932 when Marvelle was 10 years old, her mom passed away suddenly.  After that Marvelle spent many summers in Hollandale, Minnesota with her Aunt Edith, Edith’s husband and three girls, Marvelle’s extended family. On March 10, 1941, Marvelle married Gilman Hanson in the First Lutheran Church of Dows, and they began farming east of town.  They had two children, Kemalyn and Monte. Unfortunately, when Monte was 5, he was accidentally electrocuted following a terrible storm that blew trim board wires from the barn. In 1959 Marvelle and Gilman started their anhydrous ammonia business, Hanson Farm Supply.  Marvelle did the books and kept the coffee cups filled for customers and transport drivers in her kitchen.  Their ammonia business and the customers and friends associated with it and their ammonia supplier, the good people at Green Valley Chemical of Creston, were their life.  Marvelle enjoyed the challenge of trying new things, being involved in 4-H, quilting, cake decorating, flower arranging, crafts, but most of all she loved learning to shrimp in Florida during their winter tips there.

Marvelle is survived by her daughter Kemalyn and her husband John Scott of Denver, Iowa, and their two children, Chad Scott and Stephanie Fowler and Stephanie’s two children Dillon and Dayton, all from Denver also.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Gilman, and her son Monte.
