Vera Mae (Powgnas) Gerzema, 89, of Iowa Falls, Iowa, passed away Monday, September 25, 2023, at Scenic Manor Nursing Home, Iowa Falls, Iowa. A funeral service for Vera Gerzema will be 10:00 am, Tuesday, October 3, 2023, at Linn’s Funeral Home 1521 Washington Avenue, Iowa Falls, Iowa. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 pm, Monday, October 2, 2023 at Linn’s Funeral Home. Burial will be at the Union Cemetery in Iowa Falls, Iowa. Vera Mae Powgnas was born June 18, 1934, to Louis and Nellie Marie (Mitterer) Powgnas in Iowa Falls, Iowa. She graduated Iowa Falls High School Class of 1953. On November 8, 1958 Vera Mae was united in marriage to George Ebbel Gerzema at the Immanuel Luthern Church, in Iowa Falls, Iowa. To this union one daughter was born: Lori. Vera worked at Grahams department Store and was a homemaker. Vera enjoyed going to the casino, swinging on her porch swing and working with the Christian Women Club as a babysitter.

Vera is survived by her daughter: Lori (John) Husmann of North Liberty, Iowa; one brother-in-law: Harvey Gerzema of Ackley (Scenic Manor).

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband: George Gerzema; one sister: Helen Mitchell; five brother-in-laws: Fred, Art, John, Ebbel Gerzema and Roy Mitchell; five sister-in-laws: Hattie Heins, Mattie Green, Johanna Lemke, Grace Poley, and Lena Gerzema.
