Phyllis Marie Lettow

Phyllis Marie Lettow, 91 of Iowa Falls, passed away Sunday, January 24, 2021, at the Hansen Family Hospital, Iowa Falls, Iowa. Graveside services for Phyllis Lettow will be held Friday January 29, 2021   at 1:00 pm at Alden Cemetery in Alden, Iowa.     Phyllis Marie Bessman was born in her rural childhood home in Alden, Iowa, the daughter of Cecil (Fults) and Fred Bessman. She graduated from Alden High School with the class of 1946. On June 20, 1948 Phyllis was united in marriage to Richard Everett Lettow at Immanuel Memorial Church in Alden, Iowa. To this union two sons were born: Lynn and Roy. Phyllis was employed most of her adult life by the Hardin County ASCS office in Iowa Falls, where she retired in 1989. She was a lifelong member of the Immanuel Memorial United Church of Christ,  in Alden where she served on many committees and could often be found in the kitchen. Phyllis took pride in and enjoyed maintaining an immaculate home and yard. It was difficult removing the lawn mower, rake, or shovel from her hands even in her later years. In her leisure time enjoyment was found in her daily devotionals as well as working Sudoku puzzles. Her bright rays of optimism shined like a sunny day, which she so much enjoyed.

On January 24, 2021, Phyllis went to be with the Lord. Phyllis was selfless and caring, and loved unconditionally. She was dedicated to her church and community. She loved her family and friends and will be deeply missed by all.

Phyllis Lettow is survived by her sons: Lynn (Vicki) Lettow of Edina, Minnesota, Roy (Shannon) of Iowa Falls, Iowa; three grandchildren Jordan Lettow, James (Torie) Lettow, and Cassidy Lettow.

Phyllis Lettow was preceded in death by her parents Fred and Cecil Bessman, her husband Richard Lettow, her brother Mervel Bessman and her sister Bernice Reed (Bessman).
