Philip Lagerquist Obituary

Philip Lee Lagerquist, age 62, of Iowa Falls, Iowa died doing what he loved on Monday, August 12, 2019 following an accident at Boot Hill Auto.

A celebration of life will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 31, 2019 at 10188 US Hwy 65 in Iowa Falls.  Stories will be shared and the celebration likely won’t end until he makes his final cruise to his resting place at Cedar Memorial cemetery in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where a burial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 1, 2019.

Philip was born to Nadine Anderson of Sumner and Harry Lagerquist on October 17, 1956 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.  He was raised by Harry “Jim” Anderson in rural Hawkeye and attended West Central Community Schools in Maynard and Hawkeye Tech in Waterloo.  Phil has one son, Colton Lagerquist (Hanna Sorenson) of Iowa Falls to carry on the Lagerquist name and legacy.  He has one sister, Joanne Ede (Donald), of Maynard that he is laughing at right now as he always said it was going to be one heck of an auction and those that died with the most toys won.  His dad, step-dad, brother Jack Anderson and sister Kathy Wiedner have welcomed him to their party at his passing.  He had many nieces and nephews who will miss his pranks, jokes, stories, his nickel belt buckle and of course, his cool cars.  He only had a few people he wouldn’t have called friends, but he had many special friends that will miss him more than he will ever know.

He was a NASCAR fan before it was cool, and the King, Richard Petty, was his man.  The number 43 was always present and Bob Seger’s Turn the Page was likely to be heard just when he needed a reminder.  He owned and operated many ventures throughout his years: Iowa Falls Standard, Phil’s Boot Hill Auto and Frozen Motors.  His passion for and knowledge of cars, racing, towing and of course, his favorite, the Kit Car are well-known and will be missed world-wide.  Really Phil?  People from Australia!  We thought it was just another one of your stories, but I guess you were a legend … kind of like Big Foot.  He didn’t just tell the story, he was the story.  Since his retirement, he had enjoyed spending his winters near San Antonio, Texas and sharing his joy of cooking even though he had not figured out how much Cookies Dry and Hy-Vee garlic olive oil to take with him on his trip south.  He loved roughing it and living off the grid and had time to actually work on his own cars and begin racing again.  He selected this location primarily on the lack of wind in the area as he disliked the wind ... and don’t even get him started on those windmills in Iowa.

Phil had selected to be an organ and tissue donor as one person’s junk was another one’s treasure.

We apologize to the shareholders of Old Milwaukee Beer as you will likely see a decline in your stock prices with Phil’s passing.  Instead of flowers, feel free to buy a 30-pack of RED and enjoy the memories.  Condolences can be sent to Philip Lagerquist Family, 801 Sherman Avenue, Ackley, Iowa 50601.
