Lucille Marion [Burkley] Toomsen Obituary

Lucille Toomsen, 98, of Ackley and formerly of Geneva, Iowa, passed away Sunday, January 13, 2013 at the Younker Rehabilitation Unit of the Iowa Methodist Hospital, Des Moines, Iowa. A Celebration of Life service for Lucille Toomsen will be held at 11:30 am Saturday, January 19, 2013, at St. Peter's United Church of Christ, 496 Raven Avenue, Geneva, Iowa. A time of visitation will be held from 2:30 to 4:00pm Friday, January 18th at the Linn's Funeral Home, 903 Cerro Gordo Avenue, Ackley and also one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday. Burial will be at a later date at St. Peter's Cemetery, Geneva. In lieu of flowers; donation are requested to St. Peter's UCC Memorial Fund or memorials may be directed to the family to 803 Butler Street, Apt. E-1, Ackley, Iowa 50601. The Linn's Funeral Homes Ackley Chapel has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Lucille Marion Burkley was born August 10, 1914, on the family farm in Franklin County, Iowa, the daughter of Mattie Rose [Meyer] Burkley and John Carl Burkley. She attended rural country schools, but was a proud graduate of the Geneva High School. On June 7, 1934, Lucille was united in marriage to Cornelius Johnnas Toomsen at St. Peter's Church, Geneva, Iowa. The couple farmed at Geneva, Iowa and Oxford, Nebraska, and later in life retired to Moscow, Pennsylvania. They both loved to travel the historical east coast.

Lucille Toomsen is survived by two daughters: Vivolyn Butler of Norwalk, Iowa, Judith Smith of Moscow, Pennsylvania, one son: Jon Toomsen of Omaha, Nebraska; grandchildren: Larry Joe Butler [Mary] of Des Moines, Iowa, Laurie Muhlenbruch of Beatrice, Nebraska, Larry Muhlenbruch [Jan] of Deshler, Nebraska, Cheryl Muhlenbruch of Omaha, Nebraska, Theresa Muhlenbruch of Omaha, Nebraska, Matthew Toomsen [Beckey] of Omaha, Nebraska, Erin Keppy [Lukus] of Seoul, South Korea, Gregory Jo Smith [Edith] of Midlothian, Virginia, Jessica Smith of Aurora, Colorado; great grandchildren: Joseph Butler, Jacquline Butler Roeste, Jennifer and Christopher Butler, Teresa Denton [Mark] Jennifer Nolan [Kevin], Mattie and Celia Smith; great-great grandchildren: Tre Nolan, Paige Nolan, Zachary, Marley, Hailey, and Makayla Denton. She was preceded in death by her parents: Mattie and John Burkley; her husband: Cornelius Toomsen; a daughter and son-in-law: Elvera and Lawrence Muhlenbruch; two grandchildren: Donna Butler and Gary Butler; a grandson-in-law: Raymond Guest; and her brother and sister-in-law: Arthur and Esther Burkley.
