Joseph Smid, 80, of Iowa Falls, Iowa, and formerly of Liberal, Kansas, passed away Friday, October 11, 2013, at Scenic Manor. Private family services will be held at a later date in Kansas. Memorials may be directed to the family c/o his daughter: Terri Sorensen, 209 Indiana Avenue, Iowa Falls, Iowa 50126. The Linn's Funeral Homes Iowa Falls Chapel assisted the family with the arrangements.

Joseph Kenneth Smid was born November 25, 1932 at Liberal, Kansas, the son of Joseph and Gladys [Pearson] Smid. He graduated from the Liberal, Kansas High School. He joined the United States Marines right out of high school. After his discharge on July 14, 1954, Joseph was united in marriage to Delores " Dee" Rita in Clayton, New Mexico. He was a self employed residential plumber in Kansas and also taught plumbing at the Northeast Kansas Technical College in Goodland, Kansas. He was a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church, Liberal, Kansas.

Joseph Smid is survived by three children: Terri [Scott] Sorensen of Iowa Falls, Iowa, John Smid of Glendale, Arizona, Matt Smid of Knoxville, Tennessee; eleven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters: Meryle Wilkerson of Turpin, Oklahoma, Jean Fox of Liberal, Kansas; and a brother: Jim Smid of Albuquerque, New Mexico.
