Harold Alt, 76, of Iowa Falls, Iowa passed away with loving wife by his side Friday, May 8, 2015 at Hansen Family Hospital in Iowa Falls, Iowa. Funeral services for Harold will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at Bethany Lutheran Church, 2712 Washington Ave. Iowa Falls, Iowa. The family will greet friends from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Monday, May 11, 2015 at the Linn's Funeral Home, 1521 Washington Avenue, Iowa Falls, Iowa. Burial will be in the Union Cemetery, Iowa Falls, Iowa. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to Bethany Lutheran Church or the Iowa Falls Historical Society.
Harold Alt was born March 28, 1939 to August Karl and Neva Mae (Brass) Alt at Ellsworth Municipal Hospital in Iowa Falls, Iowa. He was baptized on June 18, 1939 and confirmed on May 24, 1953 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Iowa Falls, Iowa and graduated from Iowa Falls High School in 1958. Following High School he served 4 years in the United States Navy aboard the U.S.S. Dixie and the U.S.S. Parsons. Harold married the love of his life Carol Christensen on August 15, 1959 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Iowa Falls, Iowa. Harold attended the American Institute of Business in Des Moines, Iowa earning his degree in accounting and owned and operated his public accounting practice in Mason City, for 36 years. He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, the American Legion, and American Legion Honor Guard, Arcturus Lodge No. 100 IOOF Lodge, Board of Directors for the IOOF Home in Mason City, Board of Directors for the 3 Links Apartments in Mason City, and served many years on the Board of Directors for the Accountants Association of Iowa, He was Treasurer for Iowa Falls Historical Society, Treasurer for the Union Cemetery, delivered Meals on Wheels, and frequently volunteered for many community activities, He loved following and attending high school and college sporting events. He also enjoyed gardening and won many blue ribbons for his efforts including one ribbon for "Best Weed". Harold was known for his honesty and integrity, his dry wit and sense of humor, and his positive attitude towards life.
Harold is survived by his wife Carol Alt of Iowa Falls, Iowa; sister, Shirley Lyman (Melvin Hunter) of Wilton, Iowa; sister-in-law, Charlene Christensen of Ft. Dodge, Iowa; brother-in-law, Merle (Lucille) Christensen of Pikeville, North Carolina. aunts, Doris Dufloth and Florence Neuendorf, both of Iowa Falls, as well as many nieces and nephews. In death he rejoins his parents: August and Neva Alt; sister, Elizabeth Schwennen, brothers-in-law: Jerry Lyman, John Schwennen, Nels E. Christensen, Marion Christensen, nephew Jeffrey Lyman, uncle John W. Brass and aunt Amanda Brass.
