Gladys Margaret Swenson Huibsch, 99 of Iowa Falls, passed away Monday, September 10, 2018, at Scenic Manor in Iowa Falls.Funeral services for Gladys Huibsch will be at 11 A.M. Saturday September 15, at the Bethany Lutheran Church, 2712 Washington Avenue Iowa Falls, Iowa. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to services at the church. Burial will be at St. Marks Cemetery in Iowa Falls, Iowa
Gladys was born July 4, 1919 on a farm near Ellsworth, Iowa. She attended Spring Valley Country School in Hamilton County and graduated from Randall High School in 1938. She moved to Marshalltown, Iowa and worked in her uncles jewelry store and became the 1st woman licensed watch maker in Iowa. In 1950, her uncle started a jewelry store in Iowa Falls, Iowa and hired her as a manager.
Gladys met and married Joseph Huibsch on August 8, 1967. They then operated the store together until they purchased the business and it became Joseph’s Ltd. Gladys continued to repair watches and worked until they sold the business and store building in 1990. She and her husband moved to a smaller location where Joe continued his hearing aid business until 2002 when they both retired. Gladys was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church. She was a member of Business and Professional Women of Iowa Falls, American Legion Auxiliary, Iowa Falls Woman’s Club, Iowa Falls Historical Society (treasurer for 15 years), and Ellsworth Hospital Auxiliary.
Gladys was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph, her parents: Oscar and Lena Swenson, 3 brothers: Alvin, Merle, Earl, and 2 sisters: Edna and Ordella. They had no children. She had a dear friend, Lois Jones.
