Evelyn Day Soesbe Obituary

Evelyn Soesbe, 92, of Iowa Falls, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, December 18, 2013, at Ellsworth Municipal Hospital, Iowa Falls. Funeral services for Evelyn Soesbe will be 10:30 am Friday, December 27, 2013 at the First United Methodist Church, 619 Main Street, Iowa Falls, Iowa. A time of visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Thursday, December 26th at the Linn's Funeral Home 1521 Washington Avenue, Iowa Falls, Iowa. Burial will be at Northlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery, Iowa Falls. Memorials are requested to be directed to the First United Methodist Church. The Linn's Funeral Homes Iowa Falls Chapel has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Evelyn Juanita [Day] Soesbe was born January 27, 1921, in Huntsville, Alabama, the daughter of Joseph Thomas and Callie Mae [Spurlock] Day. She graduated from the Joe Bradley High School with the class of 1940. On August 26th, 1944, Evelyn was united in marriage to Richard Marvin Soesbe at the Methodist Church Parsonage in Iowa City, Iowa. To this union, two daughters were born: Wilo and Rebecca.

Evelyn worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company for 33 years, before retiring in 1978. She enjoyed meeting with the Telephone Pioneers for the monthly luncheons. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Iowa Falls, and active in the United Methodist Women group. She sang in the church choir for many years, participated in the bell choir, was a member of the Christian Action Sunday School class, and was a member of the Ruth Circle. Evelyn was an active volunteer for the Church Women's United's Thrift Store. Evelyn was a 41 year member of the American Legion Auxiliary and held the offices of President, Historian, and Secretary. Evelyn enjoyed making ceramics, doing crossword puzzles, reading and gardening. She also was an avid collector of cookbooks, piano music boxes, angels, and cat figurines. Evelyn enjoyed volunteering for many different organizations. She also loved spending time with her family and devoted her life to them.

Evelyn D. Soesbe is survived by her grandchildren: Richard [Valerie] Soesbe of Eldora, Iowa; Ronnie [Dori] Taggart of St. Paul, Minnesota; Jennifer [Patrick] Gray of Plattsmouth, Nebraska; and Chaeli [Travis] Gerrish of Iowa Falls, Iowa; one sister: Geraldine [Day] Russell of Ardmore, Tennessee; 22 great grandchildren; and 7 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents: Joseph and Callie Day; her husband: Richard M. Soesbe; an infant daughter: Wilo Soesbe; and a daughter: Rebecca Moravek; an infant brother: Max Day; a brother: James Day; a sister: Joel King.
