Ethel Pearl Pates, 82 of Hampton, Iowa passed away November 10, 2016 at the Rehabilitation Center of Hampton. Cremation rites will be given to Ethel Pates in a private family service at a later date. The Linn's Funeral Home in Ackley is helping the family with arrangements. 

Ethel Pearl [Beck] Pates was born December 24, 1933 to Steve and Leona Arnold Beck in Hawkeye, Iowa. She attended and graduated from high school in New Hampton, Iowa in 1948. On March 1, 1953 Ethel married Richard Bernard Pates, to this union four children were born: Connie, Randy, Rick, and Jeff. During most of her life she worked as a manager in the jewelry department at Kmart until 1977. Ethel was most recently a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Aplington, Iowa. Her and Richard were avid square dancers. She also enjoyed macrame.

Those left to cherish Ethel Pearl Pates. are her five children: Connie [Brian Wade] Wood of Ackley, Iowa, Randy Pates of Ackley, Richard [Rick] Pates Jr. [Debra Marquez] of Denver, Colorado, Jeff [Marcia] Pates of Ackley and Steven Pates; her sister: Shirley [Gary] Whitnable of Northholme, Minnesota, 16 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. Ethel Pearl Pates was preceded in death by her parents: Homer and Eileen Pates; her husband Richard Pates Sr.; her brothers: Arnold, Virgil, and Glenn; and a daughter-in-law: Dena Pates.
