Eleanor Barkey, 94, of Iowa Falls, Iowa, passed away Sunday, May 19, 2013, at Scenic manor, Iowa Falls. Funeral services for Eleanor Barkey will be 11:00 am Thursday at the First Christian Church, 221 Fischer Avenue, Iowa Falls, Iowa. A time of visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Wednesday at the Linn's Funeral Home, 1521 Washington Avenue, Iowa Falls, Iowa. Burial will be at the Union Cemetery, Iowa Falls. Eleanor Barron Thomas was born April 12, 1919 at Mount Union, Iowa, the daughter of Arthur LeRoy and Nan [Barron] Thomas. She attended the Des Moines Community Schools and graduated from the Iowa Falls High School with the class of 1937 after her family moved their when she was 15. She graduated from the Ellsworth College Conservatory of Music in 1939. Eleanor was a telephone operator for Northwestern Bell Telephone before her marriage to Elwood Franklin Barkey on July 24, 1942. She was a member of the First Christian Church, Iowa Falls, the church choir, and served as church deaconess for many years. She was a proud member of the Etude Club and the Iowa Falls Community Chorus.

Eleanor Barkey is survived by her children: Barry [Arlene] Barkey of Knoxville, Iowa, Gary Barkey of Dallas Texas, Terry Barkey of Jacksonville, Florida, Perry [Phyllis] Barkey of Iowa Falls, Iowa; eight grandchildren, and twelve great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents: Arthur and Nan Thomas; her husband: Elwood Barkey; a grandson: Jessie Barkey; and two brothers: one in infancy and Phillip Thomas.
