Donald Louis Tjarks 92, of Iowa Falls Iowa, passed away Saturday, August 7, 2021, at his home in Iowa Falls, Iowa. Funeral Services for Donald Tjarks will be 10:30 am Thursday August 12th at The Rivers Edge Church, 204 College Avenue, Iowa Falls. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Wednesday at the Linn’s Funeral Home with an 8:00 pm Elks Memorial Service. Donald Louis Tjarks was born September 17, 1928, at home in Hardin Township to Ernest William and Alta Marie (Whipple) Tjarks. He attended Iowa Falls Community Schools. On November 21, 1945, Donald enlisted into the United States Navy. Donald was a proud WWII veteran serving in the Navy from November 1945 with an honorable discharge in October 1947. He trained on the USS LCI G46 and later served on the USS Curtiss AV-4. He was stationed in San Pedro, CA. His service took him to many places including Okinawa, Johnson Islands, Philippines, Taiwan, Guam and the Panama Canal. He received the WWII Victory medal and obtained the rank of Fireman 1st Service.
On September 17, 1949, he married Margie Anna Janes at Reverend Ella Sours’ House on the south side of Iowa Falls, to this union five children were born: Steve, Donna, Timothy, Victor, and Suzanne. Donald worked at Prestressed Concrete for 38 years before retiring. Donald enjoyed many years of bowling on a league team at Pla Mor Bowl in Iowa Falls. Donald was an Elks Club BPOE member for 40 years and a past Exalter Ruler of the Lodge. He and Margie loved to attend local car races and local sporting events. He never missed an event that his grandchildren participated in. Those left to cherish Donald Louis Tjarks are his children: Steve Tjarks of Ackley; Donna (Kevin) Vierkandt of Alden; Timothy (Deanne) Tjarks of Cedar Falls; Suzanne (Mike) Murphy of Iowa Falls. two sisters; Shirley Caruth of Iowa Falls; Joanne Gilbert of Mason City; 20 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
Donald was preceded in death by his wife of 67 1/2 years Margie; his parents Ernest and Alta Tjarks; a son Victor Tjarks; a sister Bonnie Bahr; brothers Richard Tjarks; Everett Tjarks; Ernest Tjarks, Jr. and Gary Tjarks.
