Dean Kelsey, 90, of Iowa falls, Iowa, passed away Friday evening at Scenic Manor. Funeral services for Dean Kelsey WILL BE 10:30 am Wednesday, October 9, 2013, at the First United Methodist Church, 619 Main Street, Iowa Falls, Iowa. A time of visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 pm Tuesday, October 8th also at the First United Methodist Church. Burial will be at the Union Cemetery, Iowa Falls. The Linn's Funeral Home, 1521 Washington Avenue, Iowa Falls, Iowa is in charge of the arrangements.

Dean Kelsey was born January 2, 1923, on his parents farm near Iowa Falls, Iowa, the son of Charles Jerold 'C. J.' Kelsey and Florence 'Ola' [McCord] Kelsey. He attended Country School #8 in Hardin Township near his home and then the Iowa Falls High School (on the fast pitch softball team), graduating with the class of 1940. While in High School he received an Iowa Farmer/FFA Award in 1940. After High School he worked for the Iowa Falls Machine Works, Ray Braga Garage, and was a grain, livestock, and dairy farmer, while also serving on the Iowa Falls Police Reserve (serving as chief).

On May 1, 1950, Dean was united in marriage to Barbara Elaine McCord at Bentonville, Arkansas. Through the years Dean's business accomplished included: owned and operated Kelsey Auto Salvage, a Hardin County Telephone Lineman, was a Harley Davidson Motorcycle dealer, a Bridgestone Motorcycle dealer, a Mono Chainsaw Dealer, and an accomplished farmer. He performed motorcycle stunts at the Hardin County Fair, participated in Flat Track Motorcycle racing and was a Class C professional motorcycle hill climber. He sold Amway with his wife and also did odd jobs like chainsaw work, Caterpillar work and even sheared sheep. He worked with the Boy Scouts of America for many years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church (serving on various church boards), a member of the Farm Bureau, the Iowa Falls Coop, Friends Cemetery Association, a member of the American Motorcycle Association, and a founding member of the Ghost Town Ramblers Motorcycle Club. He also was a Brother of the Brush in the 1955 Iowa Falls Centennial (beard growing contest).

Dean Kelsey is survived by his children: Mary [James] Martz of Andover, Minnesota, Charles [Sue Pierce] Kelsey of Iowa City, Coralville, Iowa, Marjorie [Paul] Zani of Colorado Springs, Colorado; eight grandchildren: Adam Peterson of Sioux City, Iowa, Christopher Peterson of Bath, Maine, Jesse Kelsey of Oakland California, Keegan Kelsey of Ithaca, New York, Paul Zani, Jr. of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Tessa Colon of Melbourne Beach, Florida, Jason Dagg of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and twelve great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents: Florence and Charles Kelsey; his wife: Barbara Kelsey; a daughter: Sandra Kay Kelsey; a sister: Margaret Lawton; and three brothers: Bruce Kelsey, Donald Kelsey, and Raymond Kelsey.
