Charlotte Marian Klein

Charlotte Marian Klein, 90, of Ackley, Iowa passed away March 6th at Grand Jivante’ in Ackley. A celebration of Charlotte’s life will be 10:30 AM Saturday, March 12th, 2022 at St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, 496B Raven Avenue, rural Geneva.  The service will be live streamed on St. Peter's Facebook page. Charlotte will be laid to rest in the church cemetery following the service. Linn’s Funeral Home and the Cremation Society of Illinois are caring for Charlotte and her family.

Charlotte was born on the family farm near Ackley on October 16, 1931 to John and Lydia (Sailer) Klein.

She was confirmed and a member of St. Peter’s UCC church her whole life. Charlotte attended country school until the 8th grade and then graduated with the class of 1950 from the Ackley High School.

She received her Bachelor’s Degree in sociology from Elmhurst College in Elmhurst, IL. She then received her Master’s Degree, specializing in child mental health, from Loyola University School of social work in Chicago, IL.

Charlotte was the Chief Social Worker and Loyola University Fieldwork Instructor in the Child Psychiatry Clinic at Northwestern Hospital. She then held a faculty appointment as a Clinical Associate at the University of Chicago. Charlotte was the Chief Social Worker and Director of the Social Work Training Program at the Children’s Memorial Hospital for 17 years before she retired.

Charlotte loved her life in the Chicago area for over 65 years. She moved back to her hometown of Ackley in 2016 and she made her home at Grand Jivante’.

Charlotte loved to travel and her travels included Europe, England, Mexico, the Panama Canal and Asia, as well as much of the United States.

She treasured her family and friends! When all 8 Klein children were living, they remained close and they would get together whenever they could. Charlotte was considered the “glue” that held the Klein family connected! She kept everyone updated on what was happening in the family!

Charlotte is preceded in death by her parents and her siblings, Lucille (Wilbert) Plagge, Clara (Kenneth) Baumgartner, Mathilda (Fred) Arnold, Earl (Arlene) Klein, Alvin (Vivian) Klein, Raymond Klein and Shirley Scott.

She is survived by her sister-in-law Beverly Klein and her brother-in-law Thomas Scott, along with many nieces, nephews and friends.
