Cecil Lou Jennings, 87, of Iowa Falls, Iowa, passed away Monday, June 10, 2013. A Memorial Service for Lou Jennings will be 11:00 am Saturday, June 15, 2013 at the First United Methodist Church, 619 Main Street, Iowa Falls. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 pm Friday, June 14th at the Linn's Funeral Home, 1521 Washington Avenue, Iowa Falls. Private family burial will be at the Northlawn memory Gardens Cemetery, Iowa Falls.
Lou was born on November 29th, 1925 to Kenneth and Laurine (Clark) Jennings of Cambridge, Iowa. He attended Cambridge schools and served in the Army Air Corp beginning in 1943. He and Estelene Fry were married in Cambridge in 1944. Following his graduation from Iowa State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education and Science, Lou and Estee relocated to Iowa Falls, where they have since resided. Lou taught and coached baseball and basketball at Ellsworth Junior College and Iowa Falls Senior High School. He was a well known pitcher in semi-pro baseball through the late '50's, ending that career with the Marshalltown Ansons, where he was twice honored as "Most Valuable Player." Following his business association with Bill Harris, Harlan Leonard and then Claire Gray, he established Jennings Real Estate and Insurance in 1972 from which he retired in 1988.
Lou was an active and enthusiastic real estate developer in Iowa Falls and an active and supportive member of the community and the Methodist Church. He was the recipient of awards for his contribution to Public Education in Iowa Falls, his lifetime of service to the Iowa Falls Area Development Corporation, Community Service to Iowa Falls and Distinguished Service by the United States Junior Chamber of Commerce. Lou served as Mayor of Iowa Falls and on the Iowa Falls Board of Education. He was an avid and accomplished golfer, fisherman, sportsman, and pilot; enthusiastically and consistently sharing his skills, knowledge and experience with friends and family. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather giving generously of his time and expertise to all. He was the winner of great respect and affection from those he coached and taught and was most enthusiastic in helping those around him to grow and achieve, whether it be in supporting their business, professional or athletic endeavors.
Lou is survived by his wife of 68 years, Estee; two sons, Rick (wife Cindy) and Randy (wife Joan) of Iowa Falls; grandchildren Chad Jennings of London, U.K., Shawn of Seattle, WA., Jennifer Koethe and Libby Moreno of Des Moines and Jack Jennings of Cedar Falls, Molly Menninga, Annie Peyton and Becca Bolton of Des Moines; and 6 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughters, Becky and Beth and his brothers, Gerald and Loren.
