Catherine (Cole) McCord, 95, of Iowa Falls, Iowa passed away Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at Scenic Manor Nursing Home in Iowa Falls, Iowa. Graveside services for Catherine McCord will be held at a later date.

Catherine Cole McCord was born June 10, 1929 in Iowa City, Iowa to Dr. Fern and Rilla Cole. When she was 3 years old her family moved to Iowa Falls. She attended schools and graduated from Iowa Falls High School with the class of 1947. She went on to receive her degree in Speech Therapy at Grinnell College. In 1951 she married Franklin McCord. They were blessed with three children who all survive her: Margaret (Philip McCarty) McCord, David (Elizabeth McGowan) McCord, Betsy (Patrick) Carpenter. She is also survived by three grandchildren:Joseph McCord, Elizabeth McCord, and Laura Carpenter. Catherine will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

Catherine traveled the world due to her husband’s career in the U.S. State Department. They maintained family roots in Iowa and in 1978 they retired to Iowa Falls, where they were active in the community. groups such as Edgewood Board, the Iowa Falls cemetery board, and the Iowa Falls Historical Society to which she was the president for several years. She was a long-time member of the Iowa Falls First Congregational United Church of Christ, where she loved to sing in choir. Catherine also belonged to several social clubs including Etude and Isabella.
