Alfred Hugo Stenzel
December 4, 1928 ~ December 2, 2015 (age 86) 86 Years Old
Alfred Hugo Stenzel was born December, 4 1928, in Ledyard Township near Lakota, Iowa the son of Ottilie Marie [Kuchenbecker] and Hugo Louie Stenzel. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, in Lakota, Iowa. He attended country school in Ledyard Township in Kossuth County for 6 years, before going to Lakota Iowa High School, graduating with the class of 1946. He served with the United States Army from 1951 to 1953 during the Korean Conflict and the standby reserve until 1959. On February 11, 1956 Alfred was united in marriage to B. Caroline Van Hove at the Good Hope Lutheran Church, Titonka, Iowa. To this union two children were born: Gary and Patricia. Alfred and Caroline moved to a farm near Elmore, Minnesota, where they farmed for nine years until they returned to the home farm in Lincoln Township southwest of Buffalo Center, Iowa where they farmed for 37 years. During this time they were members of Bethlehem Lutheran Church where Alfred was a member of the Church Council. Alfred was also a director of the Co-op Oil Company, Buffalo Center, Iowa. In 1993 Alfred and Caroline retired on the farm due to Alfred’s health reasons. They took some time to travel a bit. In 1997 they moved to Iowa Falls, Iowa, where he was a Wal-Mart greeter for several years. He loved this job as he loved to meet new people and loved people working out there. Alfred liked to garden and do yard work. He was also an avid photographer, nature lover, and loved to feed the birds. He also liked to walk their dogs: Queen and Macy. He was a member of the Bethany Luthern Church while in Iowa Falls. Alfred very much loves his grandchildren and enjoyed their sporting events and school activities. During a time like this we realize how much our family and friends really mean to us… Your expression of sympathy is greatly appreciated!
