Mable Lucille Axtell was born to Louie and Amy (McCollister) Axtell, on January 27, 1920, south of Iowa Falls on what is now the Axtell century farm.  She had one brother, Harry.  She went to Cottage School with Mrs. Bruns for 8 years.  She graduated from Owasa High School, Ellsworth College and Iowa State University.  She taught school for 32 years in Maple Grove, Owasa, Hansell, Waverly and Hubbard.  She accepted the Lord at age 13 at the Methodist Church in Iowa Falls. She was a lifelong member of Cottage Church.

She was married to John Lee in 1951, who had received a purple heart in military service and graduated in Journalism from Columbia University in Missouri.  After 5 months of marriage, while working for Grinnell Mutual, he died when he fell while examining a house roof.

In 1953, Mable married Lloyd Lee.  To this union 3 sons were born:  Barry, Murray and Lynn.  Lloyd passed away in 2005.

Mable enjoyed reading, sewing, cooking, gardening and flowers.  She also enjoyed traveling by bus with her husband to many parts of the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii.  She later traveled twice to Europe.

Mable has spent much time helping family members, including parents on both sides and taking Lloyd to dialysis. She has always loved children and pets.  She enjoyed being involved in church and school activities, including teaching Sunday School, church treasurer,  church circle president,  church choir, helping with programs, Retired Teachers (president and then co-president),  Cottage Cemetery secretary and also volunteering for Area 6.  While residing at Scenic Manor, she passed much of the time by reading, sometimes 4 to 5 books a week.

She leaves to mourn Murray [Delce Dyer], Asheville, NC;  Lynn [Trish], Eldora, IA residing on the Lee Farm; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents:  Louie and Amy Axtell; her husband John Lee; her husband Lloyd Lee; her brother Harry Axtell; and a son Barry Lee.
