Dorothy Surratt, 99, of Iowa Falls, Iowa, passed away Friday, November 9, 2018 at Heritage Care Center, Iowa Falls. Funeral services for Dorothy Surratt will be 2:00 pm Tuesday, November 13, at the Linn’s Funeral Chapel, 1521 Washington Avenue, Iowa Falls. Visitation will be one hour prior to services. Burial will be at Northlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery, Iowa Falls.
Dorothy was born June 3, 1919, to Arthur and Hazel (Garner) Haffey in rural Carthage, Illinois. On August 14, 1941, she married Earl Surratt. They moved to Nevada, Iowa. Then to Boone, Charles City, and Hampton before settling down to farm in Franklin County all in Iowa. They started a newsletter service for grain elevator managers with over 30 accounts. Later she started a cookbook printing service with a business partner, Phyllis Harris, called General Publishing & Binding, Inc. for church organizations and civic groups along with family histories. They moved to Iowa Falls in 1963 where she lived for 50 years, Earl passed away in 1972. Dorothy was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Iowa Falls where she taught Sunday School for 35 years, and was also a long time member of the Rebecca Circle.
Dorothy is survived by son James (Maxine) Surratt and grandchildren Jeremy (Trina) Surratt, Melissa (Dan) Ross, Jeffrey (Lacie) Surratt, and by daughter Marijean Surratt and grandchildren Tina (James) Smith, Eric (Ellen) Clinton, Kyle (Alyssa) Clinton, and Michael Clinton plus 12 great grandchildren.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband Earl Surratt and her daughter Judy Surratt.
