Bernard Dale Miller

Bernard “Bernie” Dale Miller, 83, of Iowa Falls passed away Monday, September 10, 2018, at Hansen Family Hospital in Iowa Falls. Funeral services will be Saturday, September 15th at 2:00 P.M. with visitation 1 hour prior to services at Linn’s Funeral Home 1521 Washington Ave. Iowa Falls, Iowa. Burial will be at Berlin/Jackson Township Cemetery in Owasa, Iowa.

Bernard “Bernie” Dale Miller was born May 31, 1935, in Steamboat Rock, Iowa, the son of Ben S. Miller and Laura “Smit” Miller.  He graduated from Steamboat Rock High School in 1953.  He attended one year of Ellsworth College and then had the opportunity to farm.   He married Lorraine Marlene Latch on February 14, 1955, at the East Friesland Presbyterian Church near Ackley, Iowa.  To this union two children were born:  Linda and Mark.  Bernie farmed until his retirement.  Farming was an occupation he loved, and a second love would be for sports.  In his younger years he played fast pitch softball with the Owasa town team and in his later years he enjoyed the game of golf.  He enjoyed participating…..BUT, also loved to watch his children and then grandchildren play football, wrestling, softball, volleyball, golf and track….even when it was harvest time--he did not hesitate to shut the combine down to “be there” to watch a game.  Bernard and Lorraine also traded the cold winters of Iowa for the warm winters of Texas---traveling down in their travel trailer---enjoying the trip, with always a stop to visit family on the way down.

Bernie was a member of the Owasa Methodist Church.  He also was a member of the Owasa Co-op (former board of Directors) where he “coffeed” almost daily.

Bernard Miller is survived by his wife Lorraine Miller of Iowa Falls, Iowa; a daughter, Linda (David) Harms of Middlebury, Indiana; a son, Mark (Jan) Miller of Bemidji, Minnesota; grandchildren Ann Schaefer, Jessica Couillard, Andrea Miller, Zacharia Miller, and Alexandra Riley; 5 great-grandchildren with 1 more expected in November; a brother Melvin (Carol) Miller of Georgetown, Texas; sisters-in-law Marrianne and Corrine.  Bernard was preceded in death by his parents Ben and Laura Miller and brothers Donald and Eldon Miller.

Memorials will be directed to the Owasa Methodist Church and Owasa Town Hall.
