Velma O. Nichols, 94 of Rogers, Arkansas, formerly of Springdale, Arkansas, died Wednesday, December 28, 2016 in Rogers. The funeral service will be held 2:00 pm, Sunday, January 1, 2017 at the Linn’s Funeral Home Chapel; 1521 Washington; Iowa Falls, Iowa 50126. Visitation will be held one hour prior, 1:00 - 2:00 PM, Sunday, January 1, 2017 also at the Linn’s Funeral Home Chapel. Memorials may be made to The Alzheimer’s Association of Arkansas, 210 N. Walton Ave. #25 Bentonville, AR 72712 or Muscular Dystrophy Association, 3925 Fountains BLVD Suite 100, Cedar Rapids, IA 52411. The Linn's Funeral Home in Iowa Falls is helping the family with arrangements. Arrangements in Springdale, Arkansas were handled by Memorial Funeral Home of Springdale. 

Velma O. Nichols was born December 17, 1922 the daughter of Isaac Albert and Susie Olive Layton Barnhart. She attended the Owasa Consolidated School, graduated from Ellsworth Junior College in Iowa Falls, Iowa, and taught in elementary grade schools before her marriage to Horace D. Nichols of Owasa, Iowa. She and her husband operated a plumbing-heating business in Iowa Falls, Iowa until 1973 then moving to Springdale for a more moderate climate. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Springdale.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Horace Delbert Nichols of Springdale, AR, sister, Emily Ziesman, of Eldora, IA, brother, Wesley Barnhart of Iowa Falls, IA, granddaughter Naomi Mussman and a grandson, Lonnie Edwards.

Survivors include three sons, Tadd E. and Timothy A. Nichols of Independence, IA and Mark A. Nichols of Fayetteville, AR; daughters, Leila S. (Lee) Bower of Bentonville and Mary E. Mountifield of Rogers, AR.
