Richard Bernard Pates Sr.

Richard Bernard Pates Sr., 82 of Ackley, Iowa passed away July 16, 2016 at the Grand JiVante Nursing Home in Ackley. Cremation rites will be given to Richard Pates in a private family service at a later date. The Linn's Funeral Home in Ackley is helping the family with arrangements. 

Richard Bernard Pates was born March 31, 1934 to Homer Earl and Eliene Olophant Pates in Iowa City, Iowa. He attended country school until the eighth grade. On March 1, 1953 he married Ethel Pearl Beck, to this union four children were born: Connie, Randy, Rick, and Jeff. During most of his life he worked at the Rath Packing Company plant over in Waterloo, Iowa until the plant closed it's doors in 1984. He was a member of the Pesbyterian Church wherever he lived.

Those left to cherish Richard Bernard Pates Sr. are his wife: Ethel Pates of Hampton, Iowa; his four children: Connie [Brian Wade] Wood of Ackley, Iowa, Randy Pates of Ackley, Richard [Rick] Pates Jr. [Debra Marquez] of Denver, Colorado, and Jeff [Marcia] Pates of Ackley; his brother and sisters: Betty [Lawrence] Wisecup of Waterloo, Iowa, Eunice Aschenbrenner of Waterloo, Iowa, Don Pates of Gilbertville, Iowa; Sandra [Jerry] Rand of Elk Run, Iowa, and Duane Pates of Raymond, Iowa; numerous grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren. Richard Bernard Pates Sr. was preceded in death by his parents: Homer and Ethel Pates; his brother: Jack Pates; his sister-in-law: Judy Pates; a brother-in-law: Howard Aschenbrenner; and a daughter-in-law: Dena Pates.
