IOWA FALLS- Marilyn LaVonn "Bonnie" Johnson, 79, of Iowa Falls, died Tuesday, July 22, 2008 at Scenic Manor, Iowa Falls. Memorial service will be 2:00 PM Friday, July 25, 2008 at Iowa Falls Evangelical Free Church, 19939 CO HWY D20, Iowa Falls. Graveside service will be 1:00 PM Saturday, July 26, 2008 at Evergreen Cemetery, Vinton. Memorials are directed to family c/o her daughter, Mary Vieth, 15 South Avenue, Iowa Falls, IA 50126. Marilyn LaVonn was born April 24, 1929 in Adair County, IA at the family farm; daughter of Russell Waltz and Cora Elizabeth (Davis) Stickels. She graduated from Albia High School in 1947. Marilyn was united in marriage to Robert William Johnson in Winterset at the Methodist Parsonage. She was a cook at Vinton High School for 20 years and retired as a motel manager at Fidlers Inn, Branson, MO. She attended Iowa Falls Evangelical Free Church and was a Vietnam Veteran's Gold Star Mother. Marilyn enjoyed traveling with her daughters, having house guests, watching horses, reading, and spending time with her grandchildren. Marilyn will be greatly missed by her family. Marilyn is survived by her three daughters, Vicki Elaine Everman, Story City, IA; Mary Beth [Jeffery] Vieth, Iowa Falls; and Susan Diane [Michael] O'Reilly, Montrose, IA; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, Kris [Laura] Lilja and their daughters, Annika and Elise, Prior Lake, MN; Tessa Everman and her son, Bostin, Altoona; Kacie Everman and her children, Tayson, Jeyden and Kelis, Story City; Bethany Vieth, Tacoma, WA; Haley Auston and her children, Kiara and Kamryn, Iowa Falls; and Amy [Steven} Fellows and their daughter, Evelyn, Cedar Rapids; two sisters, Billie Lee [Curtis] Jans, Dysart, IA; and Dixie Lou [Jack] Wayson, Vinton; two brothers, Charles A. [Pearl] Stickels, Douds, IA; and Russell W. "Johny" [Sheila] Stickels Jr., Vinton; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Mary Whitmore, 85, of Iowa Falls, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, July 16, 2008, at Scenic Manor, Iowa Falls. Funeral services for Mary Whitmore will be 10:00 am, Friday, July 25th at the Bethany Lutheran Church, Iowa Falls, Iowa, with Pastor Brian King officiating. Mary Esther Rose Whiting was born November 24, 1922, in Bury St. Edmonds, England to Mable [Steele] and Harry Whiting. She attended private school through age 16. While living in England Mary worked in a bakery as an assistant. On January 8, 1946, Mary was united in marriage to Donald Charles Whitmore in Bury St. Edmonds, England. To this union four children were born: Fred, Tony, Rosemary, and Gene. Mary became a United States Citizen on August 26, 1952. She worked in the mail room at Times Citizen Newspapers, retiring in 1984. She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church to include its Rachele Circle; the Eastside Ladies Aide; and a former member of the Ladies of the Moose Lodge # 1108, all of Iowa Falls. Mary Whitmore is survived by her children: Fred [Georgia] Whitmore of Albert Lea, Minnesota, Tony [Sue] Whitmore of Iowa Falls, Iowa, Rosemary [Legran] Miles of Florence, South Carolina, Gene [Shiela] Whitmore of Sheffield, Iowa; twelve grandchildren; and nineteen great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents: Harry and Mable Whiting; her husband: Donald; and two brothers: Charles Whiting and Erick Whiting. |

Virgil White, 79, of Eldora, Iowa passed away Monday, July 7, 2008, at his home. Memorial services for Virgil White will be 2:00 pm Saturday, July 12, 2008 at the Linn's Funeral Chapel, Iowa Falls, with Pastor Herb Kenyon officiating. Military Honors will be provided by the Hyman - Peavey American Legion Post # 188, Iowa Falls. The Linn's Funeral Homes Iowa Falls Chapel has been entrusted with the arrangements. Virgil Harold White was born June 3, 1929, in a farm house at Green Castle, Missouri, the son of Rosie Mabel [Harden] and Virgil Leonard White. He attended school at Green City, Missouri up to grade 11, and received his GED at Ellsworth Community College in 1974. He had been a member of the Mount Carmel EUB Church near Bowling Green, Indiana. Virgil served with the United States Navy from 1950 to 1954 on the USS Juneau. Countries he visited were: Canada, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Panama, Korea, Japan, Hawaii, Tripoli, Sicily, Guam, Gibraltar, Greece, Italy, France, Spain, Algeria, Sardinia, Africa, China, Formosa, Crete, and Jamaica. Virgil was united in marriage to Barbara Jean Wheeler on October 9, 1954 at the home of her parents in Center Point, Indiana. He worked at the Iowa Steel & Iron Works in Cedar Rapids, Iowa before moving to Iowa Falls in April of 1963., where he worked at Prestress Concrete until 1972, G & K Wholesale until 1987, and Boyt's until retiring in 1993. He and his wife were also Amway Distributors and they had managed the Iowa Falls/Eldora Farmer's Market for many years. Virgil was preceded in death by his parents: Virgil L. and Rosie White; two sisters: Crystal and Sylvia; a brother: Charles; a step-father: Homer Bland; a daughter-in-law: Cindy White; and two grandsons: Cory and Kevin White. Virgil White is survived by his wife: Barb of Eldora, Iowa; a sister: Wilma Condray of Milon, Missouri; eight children: Mike White of Eldora, Larry White (and friend Lona) of Eldora, Laura Whisler of Iowa Falls, Rosina (Tim) Craighton of Morris, Oklahoma, Deb (Tim) Knapp of Rudd, Iowa, Virginia (Jeff) Shinn of Austin, Texas, Tom White of Tennessee, Franklin (Melida) White of Mission, Texas; nineteen grandchildren: Anthony, Karen, Joseph, Kyle, Alexander and Nikita White, Heather Barber, Michele Whisler, Timothy Craighton,Jr., Alicia Gregorio, Jeremey White, Joshua White, Nichole Shinn, Johanna Minteer, Catherine and Alexandra White, Timothy, Arturo, and Franklin White, Jr., and two great grandchildren: Brianna Gregorio and Kyler White. |

Janice Bachtell, 69, of Strawberry Point, Iowa and formerly Iowa Falls and Arlington, Iowa, went to be with her Lord Saturday, July 5, 2008, at her home in Strawberry Point. Funeral services for Janice Bachtell will be 11 AM Tuesday, July 8th at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Iowa Falls with Reverend Kenneth Krueger officiating. Janice Jean McKiney was born September 9, 1938, in Fayette, Iowa, the daughter of Mildred Louise [Wegner] and Harold Arthur McKiney. She attended the Arlington, Iowa Community Schools graduating with the class of 1956. She attended and graduated Luther College, Decorah, Iowa with a BA in Elementary Education. She taught in Arlington and Iowa Falls Community Schools retiring in 1990. She was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Iowa Falls. On December 21, 1958 Janice was united in marriage to Leon (Gus) Bachtell at St. John's Lutheran Church in Arlington, Iowa. After retirement they moved to Eagle Rock, Missouri in 1993 and back to Iowa to live in Strawberry Point in 2007. She was an active church member all her life, serving her church in many positions. She enjoyed teaching, camping, painting, reading, and especially her grandsons. She was a member of Saint Mary's Parrish, Ackley, Iowa, where she served as an Alter server; and was also a member of Girl Scout Troop #563, Iowa Falls. She attended Ellsworth Community College Conservatory of Music. In 1938 Wilma was united in marriage to Nathan H. Wood. Wilma taught piano for many years in Iowa Falls and retired in 1993. She was pianist and organist for many weddings and funerals, churches and clubs in Iowa Falls. She was past grand organist for Iowa Eastern Star, Past Mother Advisor of Rainbow Girls, Member of White Shrine, and all local clubs in Iowa Falls. Wilma's music was the love of her life. Wilma is survived by her daughter Marjorie [George] Kallas, Nashville, Tenn., Two grandchildren, Mark of Succana, N.J. and Jay [Sherrie] Kallas, of Antioch, Tenn. one grand daughter-in-law Theresa Kallas of Clinton Township, Michigan. Reverend Ronald Rankin, 63, of Dubuque, Iowa, and formerly of Iowa Falls, Iowa, passed away Thursday, June 26, 2008 at the Dubuque Nursing and Rehab Center, Dubuque, Iowa. Funeral services for Reverend Ronald Rankin will be 10:30 AM Tuesday, July 1st at the Linn's Funeral Chapel, 1521 Washington Avenue, Iowa Falls. (641-648-2569). Burial will be at the Union Cemetery, Iowa Falls. An additional Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 pm also Tuesday at the Grandview United Methodist Church, Dubuque, Iowa. The Linn's Funeral Homes Iowa Falls Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Ronald Dean Rankin was born on May 5, 1945, in Hampton, Iowa, son of Edith M. [Turner] and Leslie M. Rankin. He grew up on a farm near Dows, Iowa, He attended schools in Dows and Hampton, Iowa where he won several state speech contests and showed a Grand Champion steer at the Iowa State Fair. Even though he struggled with cerebral palsy since birth, his post high school graduate studies included Simpson College at Mt. Vernon and Westmar College, Lemars, Iowa. His theological studies included courses at Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary in Evanston, Illinois and Southern Methodist University's Perkins School of Theology in Dallas, Texas where he obtained his Divinity Degree in 1979. He was ordained Deacon in The United Methodist Church in 1970. Prior to his pastoral career, he worked at a wholesale book store and hotel clerk in Hampton preaching on weekends where needed. During his pastoral career, he served churches in Alabama, Arkansas, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, and was chaplain at a hospital in San Francisco, California. His first appointment in Iowa was in Carroll, Iowa. His most recent appointment was at former Faith United Methodist Church in Dubuque, Iowa Ron continued to serve the Lord providing comfort and prayer at Dubuque Nursing and Rehab even though confined to the nursing home after a severe car accident. He was a Certified Advanced Lay Speaker in the United Methodist Church and was well known for his "rousing" sermons and his witness to the power of Jesus Christ in his life. He was a member of Grand View United Methodist Church and was active in small groups and Church Council. Ronald is survived by an uncle, Maurice [Peggy] Turner of Webster City, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents Edith and Leslie Rankin and a brother, Dennis. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Grand View United Methodist Church. Ron's friends would like to thank the nurses and staff at Dubuque Nursing and Rehab, Finley Hospital, Hospice of Dubuque and Dr. Garrett Ridgley for all their care and support over the years. |

Barton L. Boehmler, 83, of Hampton, Iowa, passed away Sunday at the Mercy Medical Center West Campus, Mason City, Iowa. Funeral services for Bart Boehmler will be 10:30 Saturday, June 28th at the First Congregational Church, Hampton, Iowa, with Reverend John Byrne officiating. Burial will be at the Hampton City Cemetery, with military honors provided by the Hampton Veterans Memorial Association. A time of visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 pm Friday evening at the First Congregational Church, Hampton, Iowa Memorials may be directed to any veteran's organization. Barton Luke Boehmler was born February 11, 1925, at Hampton, Iowa, the son of Bess [Luke} and James Herbert Boehmler. He attended and graduated from the Hampton Community Schools with the class of 1943. On February 10, 1943, he joined the United State Army and was activated on May 28, 1943, after his graduation. He served with the Army Air Corps during World War II as an Airplane Armorer Gunner serving in the European/African/Middle Eastern Theatre of Operation. After his discharge he attended Utah State University and the Iowa State University. On August 24, 1947, Bart was united in marriage to Betty Ann Sharp at the First Congregational Church, Hampton, Iowa. Betty passed away on June 9, 1988. On August 13, 1989, Bart was united in marriage to Patricia Ferris at Hampton, Iowa. Bart farmed east of Hampton, Iowa, for many years. He lived in Virginia from 1960 until 1986. He managed a beef farm in Berryville, Virginia. He went to Africa to be an agricultural consultant. He also went to Saudi Arabia twice, once to start and manage a 500 cow dairy and the second time to grow 1800 acres of wheat. Both projects were under the Royal Family of Saudi Arabia. He was a member of the First Congregational Church, Hampton, Iowa; the American Legion; and a Life Member of Veteran's of Foreign Wars Post 9760, Berryville, Virginia. Bart Boehmler is survived by his wife: Patricia Boehmler of Hampton, Iowa; two daughters: Sheryl [Terry] Reid of Berryville, Virginia, Bonnie [Patrick] Mulcare of New Bern, North Carolina; one son: Brad [Carol] Boehmler of New Smyrna Beach, Florida; Four grandchildren: Katie Reid of Lorton, Virginia, Matthew Reid of Berryville, Virginia, Stephanie Boehmler of Winchester, Virginia, Kelly Mulcare of New Bern, North Carolina; and three brothers: James H. [Joyce] Boehmler of Cherokee Village, Arkansas, Richard [Doris] of Missoula, Montana; Robert [Donna] Boehmler of Blue Eye, Missouri. Lorraine I. Bitters, 81, of Iowa Falls, Iowa, passed away peacefully Tuesday, June 10, 2008, at Scenic Manor Care Facility, Iowa Falls after a three year battle with cancer. Per her request no formal services are to be planned for Lorraine Bitters. Memorials may be directed to the family, Craig Bitters, 107 Paine St., Bondurant, Iowa 50035. The Linn's Funeral Homes Iowa Falls Chapel is assisting the family. Lorraine Idelle Larson was born February 4, 1927, in Iowa Falls to Ethel Rue Tordoff and Clarence Evelin Larson. She graduated from Iowa Falls High School with the class of 1944. On May 4, 1947, Lorraine was united in marriage to Glenn Sherman Bitters in Webster City, Iowa. To this union one son, Craig was born. Lorraine was employed at Iowa Falls State Bank for over thirty three years. After retirement from the bank she was employed at Scenic Manor Care Facility, Iowa Falls and most recently at St. Mark's Catholic Church in the church office. Lorraine was a member of the First Congregational Church, Iowa Falls, the American Legion Auxiliary Post #188, Iowa Falls, a lifetime member of Ellsworth Municipal Hospital Auxiliary, and a longtime board member of Union Cemetery. It brought her heart great joy volunteering with different organizations and groups. Lorraine is survived by her son Craig Bitters; two grandsons: Steven Bitters, and Todd (Dannielle) Bitters and great-grandson Eric Bitters, all of Bondurant, Iowa. She had hoped to live to see her second great-grandson, Kyle, to be born in October. She is also survived by two sisters, Marlene K. (Jim) Zech of Rockwell City, Iowa, and Linda L. (Richard) Dana, of La Jolla, California, one sister-in-law, Martha Larson, of Boone, Iowa, and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her three grand puppies, Alyse, Sarge, and Candy whom she loved very much. Joseph C. Huibsch, 80, of Iowa Falls passed away Friday June 6, 2008 at Ellsworth Municipal Hospital, Iowa Falls. A Mass of Resurrection for Joseph Huibsch will be 10:00 am Tuesday June 10, 2008 at St. Mark's Catholic Church, Iowa Falls. Burial will be in St. Mark's Catholic Cemetery. A Rosary and Scripture Service will be held at 4:30 pm Monday at the Linn's Funeral Home, Iowa Falls followed by a time of visitation from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. Joseph Carlyle Huibsch was born June 10, 1927, at Eagle Grove, Iowa, to Mary Caroline [Flynn] and Martin Vincent Huibsch. He was confirmed and Baptized at Eagle Grove in 1927. He attended school in Eagle Grove graduating with the class of 1945. He attended college at the Eagle Grove Junior College and Ellsworth Community College, Iowa Falls, graduating with the class of 2003. On August 8, 1967, Joe was united in marriage to Gladys M. Swenson in Calmar, Iowa. He was a Jeweler and Hearing Aid Dealer and was the owner of Joseph's LTD from 1967 until retirement in 2005. He was a member of St. Mark's Parrish, Iowa Falls serving as a Eucharistic Minister. He served in the United States Navy from 1945 to 1946; the United States Navy Reserve from 1946 to 1958; the Iowa Army National Guard from 1967 to 1973. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars; Life member of 34th Division Association; Member of Independent Order Of Odd Fellows Lodge # 100; Past President of Iowa State Jewelers Association.; Past President of the Iowa Guild of American Gem Society; Past President of Iowa Association of Hearing Health Proctologist; Member of the Loyal Order of The Moose Lodge # 1331; a life member of 40 & 8; member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge #1674; member of the National Rifle Association and National Rifle and Pistol Association. He was also a member (Past Grand Knight from 1946 to 1947) of the Frank McGivney Knights of Columbus Council # 5835; a member and Past President of Iowa Falls Lions Club, member and Past Commander of Hyman-Peavey American Legion Post #188; and a Past County American Legion Commander. Joseph is survived by his wife Gladys of Iowa Falls; one brother, Francis [Margaret] Huibsch of Joplin, Missouri. and one sister, Catherine [Francis] Killelea of Ottawa, Illinois.
