Howard Ray Hodson, Sr., 71, of Ackley, Iowa, passed away Monday, May 27, 2013. Memorial services for Howard Ray Hodson, Sr. will be 2:00 pm Wednesday, at the United Methodist Church, 416 Hardin Street, Ackley, Iowa, with a time of visitation one hour prior to services also at the church on Wednesday. Military Honors will be provided by Harry Peters American Legion Post # 285, Parkersburg, Iowa. Inurnment will be on Saturday at the Lakeview Cemetery, Johnson City, Illinois. The Linnís Funeral Homes Ackley Chapel assisted with the arrangements.
Howard Ray Hodson was born December 27, 1941 at Wabash, Indiana, the son of Leo and Mary Krienke [Bell] Hodson. He attended the John W. Heney Grade School and the Freeport, Illinois Community Schools. He enlisted with the United States Army on July 14, 1959, after serving almost 5 months with the National Guard. He was discharged on February 23, 1962 after serving over two years overseas with the 23rd Transportation Co. in Germany He spent his working career in public relations, retiring in 1994. He was a member of the American Legion and had served as the 3rd District of Iowa in many capacities, including District Commander.
Howard Ray Hodson Sr. is survived by his mother: Mary Krienke of Johnson City, Illinois; two sons: Howard R. Hodson, Jr. of Herrin, Illinois; Robert E. Hodson of Horn Lake, Mississippi; three grandchildren: Kyle Ray Hodson of Harrisburg, Illinois, Nichole Elizabeth Hodson of Herrin, Illinois, Starla Jean Marie Hodson of Columbia City, Indiana; a brother: Mike [Karen] Hodson of Tampa, Florida; a sister-in-law: Sue Hodson of Simpson, Illinois; and two special friends: Joyce Geiken of Ackley, Iowa, and Morgan Truax of Parkersburg, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his grandparents: Charles and Fern Bell and Charles and Mertel Krienke; his father: Ed Krienke; a son: Eric S. Hodson; a daughter-in-law: Shellie Hodson; and a brother: Ed Hodson.
