Dennis Raye Dohlman was born on March 16, 1946 in Iowa Falls, Iowa, the eldest son of Lowell and Harmina Ploeger Dohlman. On July 17, 2012, after fighting the good fight, Dennis went home to his faithful Heavenly Father and his Savior, Jesus Christ: totally and forever healed. He passed quietly at his home in Plano with Mary and family at his side.

His early years were primarily spent on various farms and cities in Iowa. He graduated from Ackley-Geneva High School in 1964 and received his Bachelor of Chemical Engineer degree from Iowa State University in 1968. In 1993, Dennis received his Master of Safety Engineering. Through his career, he worked in petrochemicals and gas plants in various states. In February 2007, he retired from British Petroleum after 27 years. In April 2007, Dennis and Mary began volunteering with Shelter Now International (SNI), and he continued until his death.

On September 2, 1966, Dennis married Mary Ontjes in Aplington, Iowa. They were blessed with two children: John and Rebecca and six wonderful grandgirls.

He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Amy Louise; his parents, Lowell and Harmina Dohlman; and an infant sister, Sheila Dohlman. He is survived by his wife, Mary of Plano, TX; a son, John Dohlman and wife Amy of Plano, TX; his daughter, Rebecca Dohlman Skelton and husband Jeff of Bryan, TX; six grandgirls: Alexandra Smith, Autumn Smith, and Abigail Dohlman of Plano, TX; Rachel Skelton, Ruth Skelton, and Sarah Skelton of Bryan, TX; his sister, Susan Bohner and husband Rodney of Story City, IA; his brothers, Dale Dohlman and wife Mary of Brighten, IA and Dwight Dohlman and wife Deb of Spirit Lake, Iowa; his mother-in-law, Gertrude Ontjes of Double Oak, TX; sister-in-law, Nancy Smith and husband Gary of Double Oak, TX; brother-in-law, Robert Ontjes and wife Lorna of Iowa City, Iowa; numerous nephews, nieces, great nephews, great nieces, and cousins; plus dear friends around the world.

A memorial service was held on Saturday, July 21, 2012 at Custer Road United Methodist Church, Plano, TX with funeral and burial on July 24, 2012 at Austinville Christian Reformed Church and Cemetery, Austinville, Iowa with dear friend, Rev. James Hester presiding. Allen Family Funeral Options of Plano, TX and Linn Funeral Home of Iowa Falls, Iowa were in charge of arrangements respectively.
